Abstract

The author examines the voters' hostility directed toward the U.S. federal government, the Congress and the Democratic Party. He suggests that much of the anger at Washington is caused by the Troubled Asset Relief Program, bailouts and takeovers that did in fact save the U.S. economic system. He also notes the hostile reactions of independents and moderates to the emergency measures that had to be taken after the fall of Lehman Brothers and cites the likely manifestation of the voter's hostile mood in the November 2010 election.
