Abstract
- The article presents a profile of the Unitarian minister Reverend Alfred Hobart and his contributions to the African American civil rights movement of Birmingham, Alabama during the 1950s and 1960s. Details are given overviewing Hobart's early career in social work and then his tenure as minster of the Birmingham Unitarian Church from 1953 onward. Comments are given citing multiple sermons issued by Hobart during the civil rights movement in support of the African American community along with religious and social services which the parish offered to the minority as well.
