Abstract

The article discusses whether U.S. colleges and universities can meet the goal set by President Barack Obama of having the highest rate of college graduation among developed nations by 2020, despite the nationwide effect of budget problems on academic programs. To meet the goals, the authors present ten questions for colleges to ask about such issues as goals and expectations for students, alignment of departments and courses with goals, and teaching techniques which support active learning.
