Abstract

The article discusses the development of Open Authorization (OAuth), an open standard allowing users to share their private resources stored on a website with another website. OAuth emerges from the intention of implementers of OpenID, another open standard for user authentication, to delegate authentication through an application programming interface (API). It compares OpenID protocol with single sign-on (SSO) and claims that OAuth does not need OpenID.
