Abstract

The author considers how well individuals are acquainted with their own sense of taste and like or dislike when it comes to appreciating works of art. The possible reasons that people could be aware of their own aesthetic preferences are considered as is the ways in which we pursue aesthetic pleasure. A definition for the term "taste" is provided. Other topics include the ability to make aesthetic judgments, affective ignorance, emotions, inaccurate second-order awareness, and false attribution of aesthetic responses.
