Abstract

The article presents the statement of environmentalist Lester Brown on the economic and environmental condition of China. He states that the country has a large potential grain deficit that overwhelms the export capacity of the U.S. due to a rapid growth of industrialization and population. He adds that the country is facing a daunting challenge of meeting increasing water demands while protecting the environment and ecosystems from damage.
