Abstract

The article focuses on diabetes mellitus (DM), the most common endocrine disorder characterized by a defective or deficient insulin secretory process and glucose underutilization. It highlights the possible systemic and ophthalmic signs and symptoms of DM including polyuria, weight loss and nonproliferative and proliferative retinopathy. It discusses the complications of hyperglycemia, the most frequently observed sign of DM. It offers information on the treatment for DM.
