Abstract

In comparing psychoanalytic models there is always the danger of reducing one or more critical elements in at least one of the paradigms under consideration. This commentary aims to elaborate aspects of the intersubjectivist position, most especially at the clinical/phenomenological level, which I believe are overly reduced or underrepresented in Ringstrom's paper, thus losing much of their original significance. I also suggest a self psychological/intersubjectivist form of mutual recognition that potentially enriches, rather than challenges, this key element within the relational model.
