Abstract

The article discusses the use of robotic technology as part of network centric warfare. It highlights developments in war-fighting technology that separates the warfighter from the consequences of their actions by as much as several thousand miles. Robot planes are guided by and communicating through space satellite technology. A market-research firm describes drones as big business which is expected to reach 4.7 billion U.S. dollars in global sales. The authors underline the condemnation of using drones as weapons. Drone attacks are described by international lawyers as state-sanctioned assassinations. The authors warn of a rapid rise in civilian casualties due to drone attacks. Peace activists consider robotic technology as neither surgical, nor antiseptic, nor moral.
