- KABUL, Afghanistan -- Bombings killed at least 13 civilians who had gathered to celebrate spring picnics in southern and eastern Afghanistan on Sunday, provincial authorities reported, and a joint NATO-Afghan force shot an elderly man in a house raid on a rural village in Wardak Province. The man was shot during a nighttime military operation to search for a Taliban leader believed to be operating in the Chak-e-Wardak district of the province, according to a NATO spokesman.
