Abstract

The article discusses a study on the effectiveness of parecoxib versus placebo for pain management after minor day stay gynaecological procedures at King Edward Memorial Hospital for Women in Perth, Western Australia. There was a decreased dynamic pain scores in patients after the preoperative administration of intravenous parecoxib. They reported a reduction in postoperative headache. Also noted is the concern about the cardiovascular effects of selective cyclo-oxygenase-2 (COX-2) inhibitors.
