Abstract

The article reports that Microsoft Corp. is preparing to exploit an opportunity in Internet search that could arise in the event Google Inc. withdraws from China over a dispute regarding censorship of Web searches. Contrary to Google, Microsoft has indicated it would continue to comply with Chinese rules mandating that certain search results be censored. Since Google first threatened to leave China, Microsoft has hired away at least three of its employees in that country.
