Abstract

The article discusses Cuba's foreign relations with African countries under the administration of Cuban leader Fidel Castro. Cuba's communist/socialist regime sought to support other like-minded government efforts in developing countries in Africa in an effort to create allies after the Bay of Pigs in 1961. Cuba's efforts to support radical leaders in Africa included sending military aid to countries including Algeria, the country which became the Democratic Republic of Congo, Angola, and Ethiopia. The article also describes the efforts of Argentine Marxist revolutionary Che Guevara in Africa.
