Abstract

The article focuses on Mary Everest Boole, wife of mathematician George Boole who wrote the 1854 book of logic "Laws of Thought," After George Boole's death in 1864, his wife Mary sought to promote her husband's scholarship by teaching his logical theories to lay audiences. The author considers Mary's writings on a variety of topics such as education, psychology, women’s suffrage, and the antivivisection movement and discusses Mary's position as a women promoting science during the Victorian period.
