Abstract
- The article discusses the development of a waveguide-based wedge that is capable of removing the need for color pixel filters and dividing backlight power consumption by researchers at Microsoft Corp. in Redmond, Washington. The waveguiding optic is seen as a potential approach to display backlighting by using a minimal number of light emitting diodes (LEDs). The waveguide-based wedge direct lights from LEDs into a planar and collimated beam, resulting to a high-efficiency display backlight.
