Abstract

''The shapes I make evolve from what I have needed or wanted in my house,'' said Lisa Neimeth, a 46-year-old ceramicist in San Francisco. When she bought a 60-inch round dining table, she said, she thought a Lazy Susan would be a worthwhile addition. But shopping for one proved to be dismaying. ''They were pretty tacky, made of laminated wood or plastic,'' she said. So she made her own, hand-etching drawings on them, or pressing found objects like rocks and branches into the material as she does with her tableware, below. Her ceramics range in price from $15 for a bowl, 5 inches in diameter, to $300 for a Lazy Susan, 20 inches in diameter. Information: (415) 682-0599 or lneimeth.com. [ABSTRACT FROM PUBLISHER]
