Abstract

The article discusses the calming effect of Wolfgang Mozart's music, known as the Mozart effect, on premature babies. Studies conducted on 20 healthy preterm infants in Israel showed that babies who were made to listen to Mozart for 30 minutes used 10-13 percent less energy at rest compared to babies who were not exposed to the music. More studies are being conducted to determine whether Mozart or even music done by others reduce babies' stress. The author believes that the study provides some evidence that Mozart's music can have beneficial effects.
