Abstract

The article reports on the move of crane owners to advance inspections to comply with more stringent quality controls in the U.S. According to those who are stepping up their safety programs, the economic recession provides the best time to raise safety controls before the market rebounds. Salem, Oregon-based Morrow Equipment Co. is offering classes that include seminars on fall protection and electrical protection to its employees. As of 2010, annual inspections are being required by federal rules but they do not mandate the inspector to be licensed.
