Abstract

The article presents a randomized trial that compares low-carbohydrate ketogenic diet (LCKD) with orlistat therapy plus a low-fat diet (O + LFD) for weight loss for individuals with body mass index mean of 39.3. It states that obese patients were randomized from the Department of Veterans Affairs in Durham, North Carolina. It concludes that LCKD outcome is the same for O + LFD, in terms of serum lipid, body weight, and glycemic parameters and was more efficient for blood pressure.
