Abstract

The benign prostatic hyperplasia determines a series of signs and obstructive symptoms of the urinary flow. It is the first reason of consultation urology in our country. Its incidence increases with the aging. 35% of the men between 70 and 79 years will deserve treatment. The golden standard is the TURP, which carries risks, same that can diminish with the use of technologies that allow to resect major quantity of fabric in less time, with minor blood loss and complications. Objective: To compare two TURP's surgical technologies with the purpose of demonstrating which is better. Material and methods: Patients submitted to TURP between June to November, 2008 in HEMU No. 25 and GHZ No. 33, which assemble the criteria of selection of the study. Results: The patients submitted to TURP of low flow presented minor blood loss (p = 0.01), fewer days of hospitalization, and major degree of reference of obstructive symptoms. As well as major quantity of resected tissue (p = 0.005) in less time (p = 0.034) in comparison with the conventional TURP. Conclusions: The TURP in spite of changing suprapubic is superior to the conventional TURP, is a sure, simple, reproducible technology, which diminishes the appearance of complications, granting advantages to the urologist and patient.
