Abstract
- The article discusses the historical context of the reorientation of the U.S. Army Reserve forces into an operational reserve. The structure of the Reserve forces from the period after World War II to the period of the Total Force is described. A more strategic reserve was retained as extended and repetitive periods of service had been carried out.
