Abstract: The author focuses on the decline in the demand for firearms in the U.S. in 2009 as changes to gun rules have not materialized. He cites the increase in firearm demand in 2008 as gun owners anticipated a crackdown on gun ownership by the administration of President Barack Obama. The gun-order backlog of Smith & Wesson Holding dropped 46% in October, with 30% of the decline because of order cancellations. According to the Federal Bureau of Investigation, background checks for gun and explosive purchases fell 20% in November.
