Abstract

During the old Anatolian Turkish period, a large number of medical works had been written in Turkish language. The anatomical and physiological names in these works had been generated in line of word formation rules which had contributed to the development of Turkish Medical language. 16 crucial medical works that had been written in the above mentioned period were investigated on the basis of phonetic, semantic and lexical properties. The results of our investigation revealed the fact that this productive period had had a considerable influence on the Turkish medical language in other time periods. In this period, most of the simple single word medical terms that had been formed and transferd in folk language remained permanent. However, the terms generated by the author or transcriber (copying press) had been used as temporarily and had faded away in the course of timecomposed of temporary terms and were not used today any more.
