Abstract: The article offers world news briefs related to science in 2009. A cabinet-level working group chaired by Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama in Japan recommended slashing funding for many prominent science projects. International climate negotiators at the United Nations climate summit in Copenhagen, Denmark failed to craft a treaty to succeed the 1997 Kyoto Protocol. A series of "Nature" investigations uncovered plagiarism in papers co-authored by highlevel officials in Iran.
