Abstract
- The article discusses mathematical relationships including fractals, number series, and Apollonian gaskets, the latter of which are said to stimulate great interest among mathematicians. The ancient Greek geometer Apollonius of Perga is credited with writing about tangencies in a lost manuscript of that title that is relevant to constructing Apollonian gaskets. French mathematician Rene Descartes is noted for his formula describing the radii of 4 circles that are tangent to each other. Further information on Apollonian gaskets is presented with associated diagrams.
