Abstract
- The article focuses on the effectiveness of a deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) test in sex determination of birds developed by the authors. The test uses a novel primer (P0) specific for chromohelicase-DNA- (CHD)-W gene, a multiplex polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and simple agarose-gel electrophoresis. The PCR was able to identify males and females in 14 families due to varying bands amplified by primers P0, P2 and P8. Sequence alignment and direct sequencing were able to detect partial CHD-W gene amplified by P2 and P8 in additional band in males.
