Abstract
- The article discusses a competition between geothermal-heat pumps (GHPs) and related systems in the U.S. It is stated that these systems, if designed to be efficient, can produce more energy than they consume and yield a positive coefficient of performance (COP). Among the factors that affect the system's ability to save the owner money include the struggle of engineers with design complexities. It talks about a growth in the market for ground-source heat pumps (GSHPs).
