Abstract: The article describes how extreme price volatility has led to more manageable oscillations in the basic chemicals and plastics sector as of November 9, 2009. It details the regional price variations in linear low-density polyethylene (LLDPE) in Europe and North America. The market demand by converters and suppliers is analyzed. Also noted is a disclosure by Robert Sheldon, business manager for plastics at the London Metal Exchange (LME), of a shift toward electronic trading in February 2010.
