Abstract

The article reports on the plan made by satellite researchers to develop a space-based solar-power satellite in Japan. Under the programme to lead the world in space-based solar power, the researchers have outlined their commitment launch a full-scale system by 2030. However, the plan is only attainable if the costs of the developing such a system would come down dramatically for it to more economically viable. Scientists say that the system works by collecting solar energy with photovoltaic cells, and transferring it to the antennas that transmit microwaves for conversion at the receiver side.
