Abstract

The article presents a study which investigates the role of temporal and spatial calcitonin-gene related peptide (CGRP) innervation in the ectopic bone formation after spinal infusion. The method includes histomorphological evaluation of the lumbar vertebrae of rabbits, which undergone lumbar vertebrae fusion containing recombinant human bone morphogenetic protein-4 solution. It shows that CGRP innervation is linked with ectopic osteogenesis due to its regenerated CGRP-positive nerve fibers.
