Abstract

The article presents the results of a study which investigated the shoulder muscle activation involved in performing the men's gymnastics exercise known as the swallow, defined as a support scale at ring height. The experimental protocol included electromyographic measurements during the performance of exercises with dumbbells, barbells, and gymnastics rings. The differing patterns of muscle activation produced by the various exercises are described.
