Abstract

The article examines the marketing of Hellmann's brand mayonnaise by its parent company Unilever. Sales of mayonnaise have increased during the recession as more sandwiches are being included in brown-bag lunches. Unilever is attempting to reposition mayonnaise as not merely a condiment, but as an essential ingredient in recipes in many forms of cookery, even baking.
