Abstract

The article reports on issues related to food and nationalism between Israel and other nations of the Middle East. At issue is the Lebanese contention that Lebanon is the birthplace of hummus, a chickpea dish that is popular in Israel. The article notes that while Israelis would concede that hummus is an Arab dish, Israeli food companies have been successful on the international market selling hummus as an Israeli delicacy.
