Abstract

The article presents an exploration of the aesthetic philosophical concept of "seeing-in" as defined by Richard Wollheim and its connections to the Renaissance idea of "heavenly sight." Definitions of both concepts are provided, citing their use to describe the perceptive engagement of visual art. The author then assert the correlations between the two concepts. Extensions are given to Wollheim's original parameters of seeing-in, suggesting that both phenomena are actually equivalent. Comments are given addressing possible criticisms to this view, defending the author's assertions.
