Abstract: The article discusses efforts to reform the banking and financial services industry in the United States. At issue is the control of derivatives, financial instruments that are used by corporations and banks to decrease risk or avoid capital requirements. The author asserts that Democratic Party members of congress are the major obstacles to economic reform.
