Abstract
- The expeditions of Mahmud of Ghaznavid, his successors and predecessor to India are a tradition of medieval Islamic states. This tradition is named "conquest', "jihad" (holy war), "i'lâyı kalimatullah". On the other hand, these kinds of activities aren't only peculiar to Muslims, but also to all medieval states. The Ghaznavids and specially Prince Mahmud are known with the expeditions to India. These expeditions attack not only Hindus but also Muslim governor and local Muslim princes. This military expedition both has placed Islam in India and has assured new homelands for the Turkish. We have seen this result in other Muslim- Indian dynasties later. The main reason of this case is also military, political, religious and cultural activities of Ghaznavids whose results have been seen later. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
