Abstract

The article reports on the efforts of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) to get a more affordable and accessible American health care system through a health reform bill. USCCB associate director Richard Doerflinger states that they are committed to continue health concerns for immigrants and poor families, however, abortion is not included. Michigan Democrat Bart Stupak notes that the plan does not include funds for abortion except for rape cases or risks to the mother's life.
