Abstract

The author offers opinions on the 1975 referendum in which voters in Great Britain rejected a proposal to join the European Economic Community (EEC), the forerunner of the euro area currency bloc of the European Union (EU). Humorous speculation as to what Great Britain might be like as a society had the referendum passed is used to support the author's belief it should not have been rejected.
