Abstract
- The article reports on the almost 500,000 U.S. dollars in compensation awarded to United Nations World Meteorological Organization (WMO) auditor Maria do Rosario Veiga in Geneva for being wrongly dismissed following her refusal to cover up an embezzlement and bribery scandal involving the election of their secretary-general Michel Jarraud. The auditor served WMO for four years and she was dismissed in November 2006. Senior WMO officials were accused of using part of 3.5 million dollars to buy votes for the election.
