Abstract

Isolated hypoglossal nerve palsy is an uncommon condition and it may be due to damage to the hypoglossal nucleus in the brain stem or to damage to the nerve along its course. Isolated hypoglossal nerve palsies may indicate the presence of an intracranial or extracranial space—occupying lesion, head and neck injury, carotid artery dissection, vascular abnormality, idiopathic, infection, autoimmune disease, or neuropathy in most cases. In this article, we present two cases of isolated hypoglossal nerve palsy and discuss other possible causes. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
