Multiple myeloma: ESMO Clinical Recommendations for diagnosis, treatment and follow-up.

The article presents clinical recommendations for diagnosis, treatment and follow-up of multiple myeloma from the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO). The incidence of the disease in Europe is 6.0/100,000/year. The tests in which diagnosis should be based include detection and evaluation of the monoclonal component by serum and urine protein electrophoresis. Information is also presented on staging and risk assessment and treatment.
