Abstract

The article focuses on the educational law on gender and sexuality called the Athletics and Title IX of the 1972 Education Amendments. It notes the development of the Title IX legislation including its history and framework in the context of high school and intercollegiate athletics. It also mentions some athletics litigation issues including opportunities for participation in athletics for female students, sexual harassment and the Supreme Court case dealing with Title IX in athletics, which is the Jackson v. Birmingham Board of Education. The administration and enforcement of Title IX are also discussed, including the availability of remedies, administrative developments, and the proper parties for private cause of action under Title IX.
