Abstract
- The article examines the ways in which electoral victories for Japan’s Democratic Party may impact relations between the nation and the U.S. The party’s economic policies emphasize social welfare, which has made some U.S. officials fear that the country is moving toward communism. The author urges that Japanese Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama is a supporter of the U.S. who will promote the liberalization of trade and investment.
