Abstract

A new scheme of antenna for wireless body area networks is proposed. A coupling-fed circular-patch antenna with TM01 mode is designed, simulated, and tested, which radiates omni-directional pattern along the body surface and has linear polarization normal to the surface. Both simulated and measured results show this antenna satisfies the expected 9% bandwidth (5.725–5.875 GHz) for return-loss ≤ -10 dB, and it is suitable for on-body communication application. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
