Abstract
- The article reports on the opposition of mining companies to the plan of the U.S. government requiring them to pay royalties, arguing that it would jeopardize green energy. Senator Jeff Bingaman stressed that the plan does not intend to harm the mining industry economically. Under the plan, the 1872 law that allows companies to extract minerals from public lands without paying royalties would be changed. Royalties of 2% to 5% would be imposed under the bill sponsored by Bingaman.
