Abstract

An encyclopedia entry for "benign epilepsy" is presented. Outcomes that determine the benign nature of an epileptic disorder include the permanent remission of seizures or complete seizure control enabling normal social integration even on treatment. In children, certain partial epilepsies possess clinical and electroencephalogram (EEG) characteristics that indicate a more benign course. Between the ages of 2 and 10, such benign conditions share common seizure patterns such as normal neurologic examination and intelligence prior to presentation.
