Abstract
- The article reports that 44 units have been assigned by U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to handle high hazardous potential impoundments coal combustible residues, also known as coal ash. EPA notes that coal ash consists of various metals such as arsenic and lead which can cause human health and environmental risks if not properly managed. EPA administrator Lisa Jackson notes the importance of compiling a list of the facilities to better identify and reduced potential risks.
