Abstract
- The author reports on the decision by the Mesa Public School (MPS) district in Mesa, Arizona, to eliminate all of their certified teacher-librarian positions over a three year period. MPS decided to eliminate the teacher-librarian positions in order to cut more than one million dollars from their budget. The reaction from citizens to the decision to lay-off the teacher-librarians is discussed, including a website that was started and a rally that was held in support of the teacher-librarians. Concerns regarding the impact that the layoffs will have with assistance students receive who take part in the International Baccalaureate Program at Westwood High School are mentioned.
