Abstract

The article discusses effects of the global financial crisis of 2008-2009 on efforts by Hofstra University to improve its academic image. Hofstra's efforts are compared to those of George Washington, Boston and New York Universities but contrasted in that Hofstra kept its tuition moderate and offered student aid to more freshmen, giving it relative value in a private school market. Hofstra struggles to raise its net tuition rate, its selectivity and its yield rate on students accepted.
