Abstract

The article discusses the prevalence, pharmacokinetics, pathophysiology, symptoms, diagnosis, management and prevention of inhalational methanol toxicity. It says that methanol toxicity cases rose in the U.S. and other countries due to ingestion of tainted alcohol products. It adds that absorption of methanol is faster through ingestion and inhalation than dermal exposure. Clinical presentations include central nervous system (CNS) depression, inebriation and gastrointestinal symptoms.
